American Samoa’s Beck Coulter is one of four captains of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) World Team and joins NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for the pre-game coin toss today in USA Football’s “Team USA Vs. When Lofa Tatupu played at USC as one of the premier linebackers in the nation, he was coached by veteran NFL linebacker and hard hitter Ken Norton Jr. Once again, they reunite as Norton has accepted a job with the Seahawks as one of the linebackers coach. In the latest Pride Fighting event for Samoan monster Mark Hunt, Hunt proves to be victorious against a much faster and agile opponent, Yosuke Nishijima. Yosuke is a Japanese professional boxer who has been fighting in the MMA circuit since 2006. Hunt has been fighting successfully since 2000 and has since been a force to be reckoned with in the Pride Fighting channel in Japan.  PRIDE is the UFC version of the United States but in Asia.  He is well known for his iron chin, heart of a lion, beastly size, and raw knockout power. Wes Littleton, Samoan native who has played on the American Samoa National Baseball team, currently was located playing at a high level winter baseball league in Puerto Rico.  Major League players often play here along with young prospects as well as minor leaguers being groomed for the big show. Littleton faced one batter in relief before he was replaced.  Other Brewer prospects in Puerto Rico are Raul Casanova & Carlos Corporan.  Littleton started off the 2009 season with the Boston Red Sox, after being traded from the Texas Rangers who Littleton spent some time in the Big Leagues...

You may have tuned into CBS’ 60 Minutes last Sunday and viewed the fine piece on American football in Samoa. A few hundred miles to the south is the Friendly Islands of Tonga, which has far greater potential than Samoa for providing football players to U.S. colleges and the NFL. American Samoa has a population of about 60,000, if I recall the figures mentioned in the CBS piece. There are 260,000 Tongans in the world....

In the Samoa Bowl VII girls’ volleyball competition Hawaii will defend their title against American Samoa, the competition opening with friendly scrimmages today at the American Samoa Community College gym. The title match is set for 9:30 a.m., New Year’s Eve, Thursday, Dec. 31. The Hawaii’s Girls Volleyball All Stars, composed of eight players and two coaches, arrived Sunday night with the boys on the football all stars roster.
